Acoustokinesis, also known as echokinesis or sonokinesis, is the ability to manipulate sounds and sound waves. Sound is the perception of pressure waves caused from periodic disturbances of a medium, while sound waves are waves of vibratory motion. Acoustokinetics are typically capable of mimicking, intensifying, silencing, distorting, warping, strengthening, echoing, speeding up, or slowing down sounds. Some can even utilize sound as physical force. This is a variation of Ergokinesis.
Applications[]
- Echolocation: Users can view or hear reverberating sound waves to locate other beings or objects.
- Flight: By projecting concussive sonic energy towards the ground, users may be able to fly.
- Inaudibility: Users may be able to stop themselves from producing any sound.
- Sonic scream: Users are typically able to generate concussive sonic blasts with one's voice.
- Sound absorption: Users are capable of absorbing sound waves and/or sonic energy.
- Sound amplification: Acoustokinetics can strengthen sounds.
- Sound immunity: Some users are immune to being affected negatively by loud sounds.
- Sound mimicry: Acoustokinetics are capable of replicating the sounds they have already heard.
- Sound nullification: Acoustokinetics can nullify or negate sounds.
- Vertigo induction: By producing specific sounds of specific frequencies, users may be able to affect the balance of others.
- Vocakinesis: Since voices are used to produce sound, acoustokinetics may be able to manipulate voices.
Limitations[]
- May be only capable of manipulating already-existing sound, which isn't much of a limitation since sound can be produced by beings at any time unless mute.
- Distance, mass, precision, etc. depend upon the knowledge, skill, and strength of the individual user.
- Sound requires a medium to travel through, such as air, ground, or water; as such, sound cannot be manipulated in or travel through a vacuum.
- Sound absorption, Sound nullification, and Sound immunity can be used to negate acoustokinetic powers.
